Top 10 Upcoming Sneakers Of Early 2019

Top 10 Upcoming Sneakers Of Early 2019

In this post I will be going through what, in my opinion, are the top upcoming releases of 2019. These releases may be confirmed or may just be leaks and may or may not have a confirmed release date. This list is purely opinion based, if you disagree feel free to comment your own opinion.

10: Verdy x Nike SB Dunk Low “Girls Don’t Cry”

This Verdy x Nike SB Dunk Low is a collaboration between Tokyo based creative Verdy and Nike’s famous skateboarding division. The collaboration utilises Nike SB’s ‘Dunk Low’ silhouette, originally created for basketball but adopted by skaters for its practicality as a skating shoe. The shoe features a a bright all red outsole and upper with a white midsole sandwiched between the two. The tongue tab features Verdy’s iconic butterfly and ‘Nike SB’ text while the heel features simple ‘Nike’ text. The shoe also has Verdy’s famous ‘Girls Don’t Cry’ logo on the upper in white.

This collaboration strongly reminds me of the Jeff Staple x Nike SB ‘Pigeon Dunk’ with the ‘Girls Don’t Cry’ logo in the exact same place on this shoe as the Staple Pigeon on the Pigeon Dunk. Nevertheless this bright red shoe won’t fail to turn heads on the street.

The pair has an expected release date of February 9th and is sadly rumoured to be a Japan exclusive. The price of this pair is yet to be confirmed. A white pair also exists but is rumoured to be a f&f.

9: Nike Air Force 1 Mid “Have A Nike Day”

This AF1 Mid is part of Nike’s rumoured “Have A Nike Day” pack which includes an Air Max 1, an Air Max 95, an Air Max 97, 2 Air Force 1 Mids, an Air More Money, 3 Air Force 1 Lows and an Air Max 270 . The AF1 Mids are a standout piece being the only shoes in the pack to feature the “Have A Nike Day” smiley logo so prominently. This particular shoe has a grey upper with the smiley logo in powder pink, a white midsole and an icy outsole. It also features the text “Have A Nike Day” on the tongue tab.

These shoes give out a strong Chinatown Market vibe with the smiley logo but have been confirmed to be a non collaborative release. This is probably sadly the closest we will ever get to a Chinatown Market x Nike collab. The pack is rumoured to be releasing March 1st while prices have yet to be confirmed.

8: Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 “Cactus Jack”

To follow up his recent Air Jordan 4 release, Travis Scott has planned to release a new “Cactus Jack” Air Jordan 1 in this Dark Mocha colorway. On the upper the shoe features a mix of dark mocha suede and white and black leather, the midsole is sail and the outsole is again dark mocha. The shoe’s standout feature is the reverse swoosh on the outer side of either shoe. The swoosh on the shoe goes from back to front instead of the regular front to back nike swoosh and is much larger than usual, kind of like something you’d find on a pair of Off-White Blazer’s.

The pair is slated to release on the 1st of April, the price is yet to be confirmed. Being a la Flame collaboration, these shoes are sure to sell out so getting a pair might be quite the challenge.

7: YEEZY Boost 700 “Inertia”

The next to join the long roster of Yeezy boosts is the Yeezy boost 700 in the “Inertia” colorway. these shoes are 1 of 3 Yeezy 700s announced for 2019, the other two being the 700 in the “Salt” colorway and the 700 v2 in the “Geode” colorway. This shoe features grey and grey-green suede and mesh on the upper and a grey midsole with orange hits. Though Yeezys are losing quite a bit of steam, from the images released, the inertia seems to be a solid colorway unlike the salt and geode. The boost on the shoe is sure to be comfortable and this is definitely a shoe I would want to get my hands on the first chance I get.

The shoe will release sometime during Spring 2019 and though an official price is yet to be announced, it is safe to assume that retail will, like previous 700 releases, hover around $300.

6: Nike React Element 87 “Royal Tint”

Hands down the best Element 87 to date, this “Royal Tint” colorway elevates last year’s breakout hit for Nike to a whole new level. The upper of the shoe is see through as usual and is in a translucent light blue colorway, the upper also sports hits of pink, grey and olive green with a white midsole. These shoes are sure to get people looking. After Nike’s success with the 87, and the subsequent flooding of the market with colorways, These might just be the shoes that get people talking again and bring back the 87s.

These shoes share a strong likeness with the Nike x Undercover Element 87s that released back in 2018 and may be the perfect shoe for someone who took an L or isn’t ready to pay resell.

The shoes are set to release on the 15th of February for a price of $160. The shoe will be available at Nike and other select retailers.

5: YEEZY Boost 350 v2 “Clay”

With the market saturated with 350 v2s, the last thing I expected was to have one on my top 10 for this year, yet here we are. Definitely one of the more unique and out there 350s, the clay colorway features the recent see through panel debuted on the statics. The shoe appears to be predominantly olive green with hits of orange. This Yeezy is supposedly a special release according to Yeezymafia, along with two other colorways, “Hyperspace” and “True Form” all sporting the see through panel.

Finally the Frozen yellows have a contender for most unique looking Yeezy. The clays are unlike anything seen before and contrary to what many thought, it appears Ye still has a few surprises up his sleeve. The pair will release some time during Spring presumably for a retail price of $220.

4: Sacai x Nike Blazer Mid

First debuting at Paris fashion week in June last year, the Sacai x Nike Blazer Mid is quite a unique take on the og skate shoe. The upper of the shoe features 2 swooshes, 2 laces and even 2 tongues. The midsole is… well… quite unique to say the least, featuring what looks like strips of a textured white material slapped over the midsole and upper without much regard for where the midsole usually starts and ends. Though odd, these shoes are quite unique and amazing and will be a definite cop for me if I can get a hold of a pair.

The release date is rumoured to be 19th Feb while prices are yet to be announced. You can likely by them at Nike and other select retailers. Sadly they seem like they’re going to be quite limited and will probably have quite a high resale premium.

3:Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Turbo Green/Sail-White-Light Smoke Grey

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Turbo Green/Sail-White-Light Smoke Grey is one of the best Jordan 1s I’ve seen in quite a while. The upper features turbo green suede and sail tumbled leather on the upper, a completely genius combinations of colours and textures. The shoe has an off the wall colour palette yet is still something just about anyone could pull of with the right pair of jeans. The shoe also has black text on the upper just below the swoosh, something thats grown in popularity after the 10 collection. Though maybe not as hyped, these shoes are probably the most wearable on this list and I would love to own a pair. You can honestly never go wrong with a pair of 1s.

The shoes, like most J1s will probably cost something around $160 and are set to release on All Star weekend. Sadly I’m almost a 100% sure my country will not be seeing a release of these any time soon.

2: Nike Air Foamposite 1 “Floral”

First releasing in 1997 the Foamposites have become the sneaker cultures staple ugly shoe that everyone loves. The unique design of Foams has made them on of my all time favourite shoes, though I have yet to cop a pair. This iteration comes in an all over print, a signature of the foams. From the ParaNorman’s to the Supreme’s, Foams have a rich history of all over prints, and this one is definitely one of the best. The upper on this shoe has a multicolour floral print on a black background with the rest of the shoe being solid black. This gives the shoe a striking, yet sort of subtle appearance and despite its loud design it looks quite wearable.

These shoes were previously set to release on All Star Weekend but were preponed by a day, just in time for Valentine’s. The shoe will most likely retail for $230 and will release in both mens and women versions.

1:Undercover Gyakusou x Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo

Finally, the first and probably most unexpected entry on this list, the Undercover Gyakusou x Nike Zoom Pegasus. Definitely one of the most under hyped upcoming releases this year. This shoe is a follow up to last years Undercover Gyakusou x Nike collaboration and this time Jun Takahashi has really outdone himself. The shoes feature a yellow/black/grey/forest green upper, the colours compliment each other perfectly and create another flashy yet subtle shoe, perfect for the urban environment. The shoe also features a chocolate brown stripe from the end of the tongue all the way to the toe with the text “GYAKUSOU” in white, with a line under the last U for the Undercover logo. The midsole of the shoe is chocolate brown with white Nike ZoomX branding and is probably my favourite part of the shoe. the outsole is a mix of yellow, white and black. The shoe also has some 3M hits on and around the tongue, really making the shoe pop. As for branding, along with the aforementioned ZoomX logo, the shoe also has a big white nike swoosh on the upper and a smaller grey one on the tongue, Undercover and Gyakusou logos are also present on the insole.

The release date is 28th Feb but no price has been confirmed yet. Recently, new colorways of the Pegasus and 4% silhouettes have emerged, hinting at this shoe being part of a pack.

Some of these shoes may have released by the time of publishing. This list is completely based on opinion and personal preference. If you disagree, please feel free to leave a comment below.
